Rare Book School Summer Courses

Expand your understanding of book history during a Rare Book School course this summer! Our five-day intensive courses on the history of manuscript, print, and digital materials will be offered online and in person at the University of Virginia and other partner institutions. 
Among our forty-two courses, we are pleased to offer several pertinent to those involved in the study of book arts. The following is a sample of the breadth of the RBS offerings: 
L-155v: Institutional Book Arts Collections: Evaluating and Describing, taught by Robert Riter (Associate Professor and Marie Drolet Bristol-EBSCO Endowed Professor in the University of Alabama School of Library and Information Studies) 
H-155: The History of the Artists’ Books since 1950, taught by Tony White (of OCAD University, Toronto) 
B-75. American Publishers’ Bookbindings 1800–1900, taught by Todd Pattison (Conservator for the New England Historic Genealogical Society) 
T-10: The History of Typography, taught by Jill Gage (Custodian of the John M. Wing Foundation on the History of Printing at the Newberry Library) and Sasha Tochilovsky (Curator of the Herb Lubalin Study Center of Design and Typography) 
To be considered in the first round of admissions decisions, course applications should be submitted no later than February 19.
