1:00 – 2:30 pm EST // Annual Business Meeting

Join CBAA for our Annual Business Meeting. Board Members and Committee Chairs will report on the state of the organization, changes to the board, and share about areas where interested members can become more involved. This meeting will also signify a change of leadership, as our outgoing President and Executive Vice President, Bridget Elmer and Ruth Bardenstein, welcome our new President and Executive Vice President, Sarah Matthews and Kerry McAleer-Keeler.

3:00 – 4:30 pm EST // Panel Discussion: Community Book Arts in the Time of COVID

When the global pandemic hit in March 2020, everyone was asked to pivot. Educators brought their classrooms into their studios and homes, and we adapted book, print, and paper arts to be done by any means necessary. The summer brought a reprieve of sorts to higher education, but what about community art centers? These spaces not only allow continued access to the equipment and studios needed to practice our craft, but help us find like-minded individuals in our community. The leaders of these spaces were at the forefront of pivoting all that we do into the virtual world, and they delivered top notch programming throughout the initial quarantine.

Join us as we bring together four leaders in the non-profit book arts world to discuss their challenges, strategies, and future plans for their organizations. This panel will include Corina Reynolds from the Center for Book Arts, Elysa Voshell from the Minnesota Center for Book Arts, Gretchen Schermerhorn from Pyramid Atlantic Art Center, and Jennie Hinchcliff from the San Francisco Center for the Book, and will be moderated by book arts educator Beth Sheehan.

Virtual Exhibition // CBAA Exchange Portfolio // cbaaexchangeportfolio.com

The CBAA Exchange Portfolio Exhibition is a showcase of the long anticipated print exchanges between each regional group. Regional Groups were introduced in 2020 and this project was proposed at the 2020 CBAA Conference in New Orleans. It’s been a long journey, with several delays and setbacks, but two years later the portfolios are complete and ready to be viewed! Get to know artists from other regions via this exhibition and see how each participant approached the theme of “Environment” in a different way.

2:00 – 3:30 pm EST // Keynote Presentation: Quarantine Public Library
with Katie Garth and Tracy Honn

Quarantine Public Library is a repository of one-page books made by artists, free for anyone to download, print and assemble—to keep or give away. Tracy Honn and Katie Garth launched the project in July 2020 in response to the loss of public space and institutional art access during the ongoing global health crisis. The site has connected new audiences across the world to books by more than 200 artists, writers, poets, and scholars. By provoking joyful interactions with printed artwork, QPL has worked to disrupt pervasive feelings of isolation during this pandemic.

This session will be led by Cabal + Cairo, a consulting company established by Dr. Victoria Cabal (she/elle) and Dr. Daniel K. Cairo (he/el). Cabal + Cairo provides individuals and organizations with developmental tools to explore where they are and where they would like to be in regards to equity, diversity, and inclusion. Cabal + Cairo is working with the CBAA Board of Directors to meet several key objectives have been identified by the CBAA Anti-racism Change Team (ACT): diversifying membership and leadership, addressing equity and inclusion across policies and practices, and developing a culture where all members feel valued.
